| Notice from their self-description below that the Boyd Law
School of Gambling, Casinos & ion is quite up front about
these matters: First, it says quite clearly that Boyd will provide the
Nevada business community(euphemism for Nevadas
casino/gambling/ion industry) with expertise on gambling
law. Second, notice that they are quite up front about the $5 million
dollar contribution from William S. Boyd and part of another $1 million
from the Boyd Gambling Group. In other words, their major contributor,
William S. Boyd, for whom the school is named, is part of the
gambling/casino/ion/liquor industry in Nevada. |
| And besides, even if some of these newly minted attorneys do drift into
the gaming/hospitality industry, it does not mean that they are lost
souls. First of all, contrary to what you imply, ion is
illegal in Reno and Las Vegas, so shouldnt we assume that the new
attorneys will not be involved in that any more than would your
graduates in Illinois? Secondly, your broad brush paints all of the
gaming industry with the spectre of organized crime. Is this fair,
given the advent of publicly traded giants, such as MGM, Caesars, etc?
Probably not. At least not any more fair than to speculate that over
the years many of your pure minded Illinois legal graduates went to work
for Chicago organized crime or their minions. Or, heaven forbid, even
into the riverboat gambling industry that is rampant in your area today.
(Why do the words pot, kettle, and black keep coming to mind?) |
| Fourth, notice it admits flat-out that there will be collaborative
programs between the Boyd Law School of Gambling, Casinos and
ion and the Harrah Hotel Management Institute, which includes
the Gambling Institute. Undoubtedly, we will in fact see
inter-disciplinary Programs such as a JD/MBA,JD/MA and JD/Ph.D. in
Gambling, Casinos, ion, and Liquor. For all we know, at some
point Boyd might offer Ll.M. and SJD degrees in Gambling, Casinos,
ion, and Liquor. |

Third, apparently, Morgan accepted the Founding Deanship on condition
that he field an entire Program, not just a course, on Gambling and the
Law.
Fourth, notice it admits flat-out that there will be c. |
